Project Progress: AMLI Riverfront Green

Located just in front of the Glass House, AMLI’s Riverfront Green apartments have dug out the first level of underground parking and have started on the second.  The photo shows the first level of shoring walls in place around the garage.  The shoring walls, built of steel piles and lagging, will be a permanent part of the building to hold up the surrounding streets.  Concrete walls will be poured inside the shoring walls to support the building above.  AMLI expects to reach the bottom depth of the project in the coming weeks and start pouring the concrete foundation by the end of September.

Modera Topping Out BBQ

Members of Mill Creek and Studio PBA were invited for the ‘Modera Topping Out BBQ’ put together by Tamra Holton, Project Coordinator, from Shaw Construction to celebrate the final structural support frame/wall on the 4 story buildings.  What a milestone!  Two structures now occupy the site where last year they were just empty plots.  Here are some photos from the event & project progress.

New Rendering: Stout24

Studio PBA just completed a new rendering for Stout24 Rowhomes located appropriately at 24th and Stout.  This project is a collaboration with developer The Morrison Group and consists of 13 affordable units spread across two buildings, each 3 stories tall.  This project is located in the Curtis Park Landmark District which is intended to support a mix of uses that provide a pedestrian friendly transition from the surrounding lower scale neighborhoods to the high-rise scale of downtown.  Look on under our website portfolio for more information!

Jansen Strawn's Pack to School Event

Yesterday a group from Studio PBA volunteered at Jansen Strawn’s 4th annual Pack to School Fundraiser in collaboration with the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Denver.  PBA’s Cris Torres, Scott Baker and Gina Metge, along with many other volunteers packed donated backpacks en masse with school supplies specific to each grade’s needs.  The backpacks will benefit three Denver-area elementary school's students grades K-5 along with teacher-specific supply boxes.  In record time, backpacks were filled and we look forward to participating next year.  If you are interested in donating click this link for more information: http://fwdev.civicore.com/giving_colorado/packtoschoolfundraiser

PBA in the News: Rogue Mailbox Prompts 9News Investigation

WalkDenver recently notified us via Twitter (@StudioPBA) that there has been some public concern for a mailbox placed on the corner of 16th and Gilpin, where our office is located.  The infamous mailbox is set directly on the sidewalk, causing some ADA advocates and local reporters to question the legality of its placement.  9News and Kyle Clark’s new segment Next Question, investigated its positioning and determined that in fact, it was legally placed, allowing 36’’ of clearance as per regulations require.  See their investigation here:  http://www.9news.com/mb/news/local/next-question-viewers-react-to-mailbox-on-sidewalk-in-cap-hill/291096622

As for Studio PBA, we had noticed the mailbox's placement had been moved over the summer but we were never informed why this had taken place.  We have no affiliation with the placement of this mailbox.  We do however, enjoy Kyle Clark’s commentary and seeing our sign on the news.

UPDATE: As of 4:33 PM the mailbox has been removed-- to be placed elsewhere at a later date, TBD.

Groundbreaking: Holland Parkside

This past Thursday we celebrated the groundbreaking of Holland Parkside, the 161 apartment multifamily building will occupy the final undeveloped site overlooking Commons park on Little Raven St.

Holland Parkside is located in the Commons neighborhood, at the cross streets of Little Raven and 19th Street, adjacent to downtown Denver.  It was a cool morning with the buzz of construction trucks in the air, alluding to what was yet to come. Two of PBA’s team members, Jill Reilly and James Richardson, attended the ceremony and enjoyed a morning of stirring speeches and Denver’s tastiest biscuits in Commons Park. The groundbreaking was hosted by developer Holland Partner Group. Jill Reilly commenced the construction with the help of the Holland Partner Group team members Kira Chaffe, Brian Blackburn, Wally Chase, and Justin Hoxie of HKS Engineering. This project is expected to be completed in Spring of 2018. For more information on this project, check out our website here!

Paul's Ball Army's Inaugural Kickball Season Comes to an End

Last week, Studio PBA’s kickball team, Paul’s Ball Army completed its inaugural playoff game in the “Spring” Citywide Architect Kickball League. Due to a mid-game weather postponement the week before, PBA’s match against Barker Rinker Seacat resumed after two completed innings, with Team Orange ahead 9 runs to 5.

PBA’s representation resembled a sea of orange, and the team was firing on all cylinders. Team Orange cruised to a 27-12 defeat of Dog & Pony Show (Barker Rinker Seacat).

Being a win-or-go-home scenario, Paul’s Ball Army then advanced to face the Goliath of the league; Davis Partnership (The Kittens). PBA was narrowly defeated in the opening chug-off and therefore served as the away team, setting up the Kittens to kick last in the game. Stifling defense by the Kittens and a treacherous bottom of the second for the Soldiers flipped the game in Davis’ favor. PBA’s 2-1 lead swung to a 10-2 deficit after two innings. However, the deficit proved to be too difficult for the double-header team to overcome. Paul’s Ball Army fell to the Kittens, 18-10. Meow.

The season is now over, but going .500 in the playoffs proves our team is heading in the right direction. We now have the off-season to practice our splash-catches, head-first dives, and beer chugging.

Thank you to everyone who played and supported the team by cheering us on!

Groundbreaking: Aria Bluegrass Bash

This past Saturday we celebrated the groundbreaking of Aria Cohousing, which is undertaking a full adaptive reuse of the convent building formerly occupied by the Sisters of St. Francis (ariacohousing.com).  Aria is located in Chaffee Park between Federal Boulevard and 52nd Street. Two of PBA’s team members, Matt Baron and Lucas Quisenberry, attended with their families and enjoyed an afternoon of live bluegrass music, bouncy castles, balloon animals and gourmet food trucks.

The groundbreaking was hosted by local developer Urban Ventures (urbanventuresllc.com). Also attending were team members from Taylor-Kohrs, the general contractor, current and former council members Rafael Espinoza, Paula Sandoval and Rick Garcia, and Sister Patty of the Sisters of St. Francis.  Many future residents of the Aria community were also there to celebrate.
This project is expected to be completed in the first quarter 2017.  For more information on this project, check out our website here!
